The Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Dr Uwemedimo Udo, has disclosed that more than 20,000 new voters have been added to the voters’ register in Uyo Local Government Area.
Dr Udo made the disclosure on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at a stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government and Political Leader of Uyo, Prince Enobong Uwah, at his residence in Atan Offot, Uyo.
The Chairman commended Prince Uwah for bringing political leaders and stakeholders together, describing sustained collaboration among stakeholders as essential to the growth and stability of Uyo’s political structure.
He also appreciated residents who participated in the recent voter registration exercise, noting that the addition of over 20,000 voters demonstrated growing participation in the democratic process.
The Akwa Ibom ALGON Chairman expressed appreciation to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for projects executed across the state and appointments given to people from Uyo, describing the interventions as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the people.
Earlier, Prince Uwah commended the Uyo Chairman for his performance, saying he had received reports on the projects and initiatives being undertaken by the council administration.
“I want to seize the moment to commend the ALGON Chairman for the good work he has been doing. As the SSG, I have information on how he is interpreting the ARISE Agenda in Uyo Local Government,” Uwah said.
The SSG also urged stakeholders to remain united in support of Governor Umo Eno, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections, while cautioning against premature political activities that could distract the incumbent Chairman from delivering on his mandate.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Anieti Udofia; Chairman of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority, Rt. Hon. Anietie Eka; Delivery Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh; Dean of Permanent Secretaries, Mrs Uduak Eyo Ansa; former Chairman of the Local Government and Civil Service Commission, Hon.
