The Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, has called for the reactivation of science and quiz competitions in the area.

Dr Udo made the call on Tuesday when he received on a courtesy visit Dr Aniefiok Iniobong Udoh, who was recently named Outstanding Public Servant of the Year during the 2026 Public Service Week in Akwa Ibom State.

Dr Udoh, a teacher at Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Oku Ikono, visited the Chairman’s office to present her award. While congratulating her on the well-deserved recognition, the Uyo Council Boss, who also serves as Chairman of ALGON, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, stressed the importance of academic competitions in developing students’ interest in education.

He charged the Secretary of Council, Dr Ubong Udofia, to work with the Supervisor for Education to organise regular quiz and science competitions across schools in Uyo Local Government Area, noting that such programmes once played a key role in motivating students to be more studious.

In their separate goodwill messages, Hon. Emmanuel Inyang, Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area (Dr Udoh’s place of origin before her marriage), described her as a worthy ambassador of the area. The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Anieti Udofia, also commended Dr Udoh, stressing that education remains key to success.

Also present at the visit were the chairmen of Ikot Ekpene, Onna, Ibiono Ibom, Nsit Ubium and Ini Local Government Areas, as well as Dr Udoh’s husband, Dr Iniobong Udoh.

Recall that Dr Udoh had earlier won the national Maltina Teacher of the Year Award in 2024.
